Academy Clubs

Running weekly classes in multiple age groups

£10 per week

Learn. Socialise. Have Fun.

A fun learning experience for ages 11 – 16 with different skills levels all driven by a shared passion for gaming and esports. We offer three different classes for different age groups running on separate evenings.

With a range of opportunities to have fun and learn at your own pace – we offer a 12 week club that combines learning with group activities and time in the racing simulator. The classes take place at our Drive Lounge venue with some extended learning at home and modules that link to elements of key stage 1-4  in the national curriculum.

It is important that the academy clubs are fun for everyone but also offer a way to support social, emotional, cognitive, and academic development.

By combining esports, motorsports, physics, mathematics, design, teamwork and evaluation via our online learning platform we can offer an immersive way to learn doing something you enjoy.

MODULE 1

Introduction to SIM Racing

Over a 12 week period we give all our students an introduction to SIM racing. We walk through the technology used in SIM racing, followed by an overview of the basic principles of how to be a better SIM racer, understanding the fundamentals of racing lines, turning, braking, accelerating.

We take a holistic look at SIM racing, what it takes to be a better racer, how to look after your health & wellbeing alongside your performance on track. All aligned to learning from the national curriculum so that the concepts being taught in our classes have a foundation in wider academic learning.

MODULE 2

Basic racing technique

For those students keen to continue to learn with us, they can progress to module 2, a further 12 weeks of learning. In these sessions we focus on honing and refining skills as a SIM racer, becoming a more accomplished and rounded racer. We dive into detail on optimum racing lines, gaining track position, increasing performance. We look at track maps and plans on how to gain advantages during qualifying and races.

We take a deeper dive into techniques that make better racers, such as slipstreaming, passing & overtaking and mastering corner entry and exit. All related back to the physics, engineering and analytics that students are learning at school.

MODULE 3

Path to competitive racing

In our 3rd module, we split the 12 weeks broken into 6 topics focused on refining racing skills in preparation for competition and providing a pathway for those looking to join the Drive Lounge Racing Team or compete in DL Junior Competitions.

Focus shifts to preparing for and managing your race, understanding your limits and the limits of the cars and tracks, maintaining consistent pace and practicing when to take a more aggressive approach and when to be more tactical.
